The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reported an increase in obesity of 40.4% among women and 17% among children between the ages of 12 and 19 in the United States as of 2014. Despite billions of dollars being invested to educate people on how to be healthier, something's not working if we still haven't figured out how weight loss for women over 40 works. But who do we blame?
Most people blame the individual, but does that also include children? Even if it doesn't, how can you blame obese adults for not understanding the best way to lose weight and proper techniques when dealing with weight loss for women over 40? Believe it or not, you can lose weight, improve your happiness, and increase your self-confidence simply by changing your mindset. Seriously. A Harvard study published in 2007 tested this hypothesis. 84 female hotel room attendants were divided into two groups. Only one group was informed that their work satisfied the Surgeon General’s recommendation for an "active lifestyle". After comparing both groups, the researchers found that:
“...although actual behavior did not change, four weeks after the intervention, the informed group perceived themselves to be getting significantly more exercise than before. As a result, compared to the non-informed group, they showed a decrease in weight, blood pressure, body fat, waist-to-hip ratio, and body mass index.”
